Meditation is the art and practice of stillness. It is the active state of deeply being…of letting everything be just as it is. It is a path to freedom from stress, fear, worry, doubt, judgment, disappointments, and limitations of all kinds, because in meditation we shift our attention away from the thought-stream in our minds –away from what we “think.” Meditation is the practice of noticing thoughts and emotions and not engaging with them. It is the practice of creating space and allowing thoughts, feelings and emotions while not making a problem of any of it. In meditation, we do not have to turn off the mind. We simply shift our attention away from the mind, away from beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world, and we open to an ever-expanding space within that is pure potential, limitless, and love. With practice, we learn to engage from this place and express from the part of ourselves that is already and always whole, creative, harmonious, peaceful, and love. Some choose meditation as a path of physical healing and wellbeing. Some consider it a fundamental aspect of the spiritual path. It is both of these and more.
